Gateways 1.0 is the beginning of an ongoing series of works that examine light in relation to optical transformations within our everyday environment. I use windows as the Gateways through which we can view these visual contradictions to our present reality. Constantly in a state of flux, these delicate, fragmented views of reality represent the state of impermanence that I believe unifies the human experience. These Gateways allow us a window into a distant yet familiar reality, representational yet abstract, intimate yet disconnected. In a time of global pandemic, windows became the barriers separating our realities. The Gateways looking into the distant lives of humanity around us, and the Gateways looking out as world continues to progress.
